What is Asbestos?


Asbestos is a natural occurring silicate mineral with long fibrous crystals.

Asbestos was used widely in the building industry up until 2000. It is a strong and incombustible fibre widely used in the past for fireproofing, electrical insulation, and general building materials.
The small buoyant fibres are easily inhaled or swallowed, causing a number of serious diseases including asbestosis a chronic disease of the lungs that makes breathing more and more difficult, it also causes cancer.
